Volkswagen Group: NLC:
Conference Centre

Background
Phase 2 of the National learning Centre (NLC) project for Volkswagen Group (UK) Limited was to undertake a full refurbishment and interior fit-out of an existing three storey office building to create dedicated conference and training facilities, administration offices and a restaurant.

The brief and the design had to deliver a facility which reflected the diverse brand cultures within the Volkswagen Group and to deliver a “wow factor” to anyone arriving at the facility.

Requirement
In order to manage the project, Volkswagen’s FM team required an experienced project management consultant to deliver all stages of the construction project from procurement to operational handover.

Approach:
CMI’s main challenge for this project was to develop a clear brief for the design team that was supported by Volkswagen’s diverse brand stakeholders. CMI facilitated creative sessions with brand stakeholders, suppliers and the design team to develop ideas, break down strong brand identities and set new standards in conference and training in the automotive industry.

This approach unified the brands behind the concept and allowed the design team to develop the details to proceed to construction.

Outcomes:
CMI’s approach led to a very strong design brief and the design team were able to generate concept designs and visuals to reinforce understanding and secure the necessary stakeholder approvals.

The end result was a truly impressive facility that was utilised by all parts of the Volkswagen Group. The project was delivered on time and within budget and set the design standards for other facilities within the Volkswagen estate.
